I want to sent out a big THANK YOU to all the families that had me in for a Family Documentary Session last year. I became inspired to begin offering these sessions and had a blast meeting, visiting, and photographing these families.
With 26 years as a career photojournalist, some street photography, and my ongoing documentary photography of my son, I ventured out to offer this wonderful, and for me, a natural and honest form of family photography. This work has opened my vision up to see and feel something new, which is part of the joy of photography. I love the everyday moments in life; those should not be overlooked. They are valuable.
What is a Family Documentary Session? It is a approach and philosophy of photographing a subject(s) much like like I have done in my career: looking for real, honest, spontaneous and surprising moments in life that ultimately tell a story about your family.
I do not pose you, or move you into a “better spot” while at these sessions. I won’t ask your family to all dress up in the same outfits and arrange everyone in a sand dune. That’s not me.
This is what I’m interested in: dropping in for a session whether your family is simply playing at home, or involved in your daily routines. You will be surprised at seeing these moments that will make you smile from your everyday lives. Or I can tag along on an outing to the local park, go along while shopping with the kids (now that is fun!), documenting the birth of your child, family events, or even drop in on your vacation.
In the end, I want you to look at the photos now, and in 20 years, and say, “That’s Us; that’s the stuff we did together as a family.”
If this appeals to you as a family, please contact me about more and let’s do this! I offer a basic package starting off with a 1.5 hr session, to an all day coverage package.
